** RSN Hands-on note ** Overall I was very impressed with the demo unit we received for testing. Minimal light is required for the VR to work and an IR light is required in very dark environments. I found the NV in the optimal environment easily outdistanced the reasonable capability of a red dot. Out of the box, screen brightness is not bad but can be adjusted up or down. I recommend keeping the screen brightness to a minimum to reduce eye strain. After installing the batteries you will want to charge it. It includes a magnetic cable but you will need a 5v 2a USB charger. (Common with cellphones) The only real issue we had was the instructions were misleading on "How to turn it on" Our hands-on demo was a "Grab and use" This was the only time we looked at the instructions. It states to press and hold the power button momentarily. This is incorrect. It is a double tap of the power button and approximately a 2-3 second hold to turn off. The digital zoom is nice but much like a cellphone, there is some resolution loss when using this function. I found the button difficult to find in the dark. A simple solution to this is the Holosun 3x Magnifier. I found this to be an absolute game-changer. No resolution loss & no need to find the button just flip up the magnifier. The Holosun DRS-NV has way more functions than we dived into and look forward to more in-depth testing.   

The DRS-NV (Digital Rifle Sight-Night Vision) is a red dot and digital night vision fusion sight that combines Holosun’s red dot sight technology with digital night vision capability. 

DRS-NV features an LED MRS (Multi-Reticle System) with three digital reticle options, a 1024x768 resolution digital night vision sensor with up to 60fps, 8x digital zoom, digital image, and video recording with onboard storage. The DRS is powered by two 18350 rechargeable flat-top batteries. An onboard magnetic coupler connects DRS to USB power for charging the batteries or to a PC for downloading recorded images and video.

DRS-NV units amplify light to improve low-light visibility. Moonlight and starlight provide sufficient lighting in most cases, however, during periods when cloud cover blocks moonlight and starlight, an external infrared (IR) illumination source is needed. Holosun recommends one of our laser devices with IR Illumination such as the LE321, or LS321. Verify your local and/or state laws before attaching an IR illumination device to a firearm with a night vision device.
