The Mini FireStorm is an "offshoot" evolution of the Bersa Model 90, the first full-size 9mm Luger pistol made by the Argentine company and introduced in 1989. In 1994, when the entire Bersa pistol production line was renamed "Thunder", and was modified with better functionalities and placement of the fire control group, match barrel, improved sights, better ergonomics, lighter weight, and increased magazine capacity. In 1995 Bersa acquired Firestorm, Inc.

Firestorm, Inc., produced the Mini FireStorm as a product line expansion of Bersa Thunder 9, in the same factory that manufactured Bersa pistols from 2001-2009. The most notable difference between the Mini FireStorm and the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact is the trigger guards. Firestorms Inc. opted for a round vs Bersa Square.
