Here we have what originally started out as a de-milled Brazilian Imbel Type 3 Metric parts kit with Matching SN on the Bolt & Carrier. It is built on a Type 3 Metric Coonan CI-LAR-3 receiver & chambered in .308/7.62x51 NATO. This Rifle was built by Coonan Inc. in 2010. The Barrel is a bipod cut. The lower receiver is an Imbel Type 3 that fits perfectly with the Type 3 Coonan Reciever.
These Rifle Kits had been imported into the US under 922r compliance. Manufactured in Brazil by Imbel for the Brazilian military and other countries, this FAL was produced under FN license. A licensed copy of the FN FAL called the Fuzil Automático Leve (FAL) manufactured by FI (Fábrica de Itajubá). Brazil took delivery of a small number of FN-made FAL rifles for evaluation as early as 1954. Troop field testing was performed with FN-made FALs between 1958 and 1962. In 1964, Brazil officially adopted the rifle. Licensed production started shortly afterward at IMBEL in the Itajubá plant.
The FAL (an acronym in French for Fusil Automatique Léger (translated in English: Light Automatic Rifle) is a battle rifle designed by Belgian small arms designer Dieudonné Saive and manufactured by FN Herstal (or simply known as FN).
During the Cold War, the FAL was adopted by many countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), with the notable exception of the United States. It is one of the most widely used rifles in history, having been used by more than 90 countries. Because of its prevalence and widespread usage among the militaries of many NATO and first world countries during the Cold War, it received the title "The right arm of the Free World".
