The Smith & Wesson Model 59 is a double-action pistol produced from 1971 to 1982. It was developed by Smith & Wesson from the earlier Smith & Wesson Model 39 by adapting a 14-round capacity stagger-stack magazine. Essentially a double stack model 39, the model 59 was originally designed for the US Navy SEALS "Hush Puppy" program. Although not adopted by the Navy, model 59 went on to prove itself over the years in the hands of law enforcement and civilians alike.
